Property by the sea in Spain... but which sea?
The Spanish coastline is (together with the islands) 7,921 km long. To compare, the Polish coastline with the Zalew Szczeciński and the Zalew Wiślany is only 770 km long. Spain is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, and the number and variety of coasts are dizzying. We have white, wide beaches of the southern Costa Blanca and Costa de la Luz, darker, volcanic sands of Costa del Sol, black beaches of Tenerife and fantastically shaped, rocky coasts of Almeria with picturesque "calas" or coves with crystal clear water.
Coming from the border with France to the south of Spain on the AP-7 motorway, we will pass in turn: Costa Brava, Costa del Maresme, Costa del Garraf, Costa Dorada, Costa del Azahar, Costa del Valencia, Costa Blanca, Costa Calida, Costa de Almeria, Costa Tropical , Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz. In the north and west of the country join this list: Costa Vasca, Costa de Cantabria, Costa Verde and Costa de Galicia. Each of these coasts is slightly different from the others, but they all act as a magnet for sun-hungry people in northern Europe and the rest of the world. Not wanting to expose themselves to the capricious climate of northern Spain, foreigners most often decide to look for real estate by the sea on the east coast and south of the country.
House in the first line and overlooking the sea
About 8 out of 10 clients who contact us have a similar dream: to buy an apartment or a house in Spain, preferably close to the sea and with a view of it. Those who have been here before and know how the Costa del Sol is shaped and what are the prices of real estate in the first line, say: "OK, since I do not want to spend or don’t have enough money to buy in the first line of the beach and I have no chance to wake up or fall asleep with the sound of the waves in the background, I want at least to see the sea." This is a very sensible approach and – in our opinion – works much better, also for practical reasons.
Properties by the sea in Spain – potential disadvantages
The advantages of having your dream property by the sea in Spain are rather obvious and we will not point them out. However, living next to the beach or very close to the shoreline also has disadvantages. One of them is…
The sound of the sea
Yes, you can install soundproof windows and close them carefully, but here most of the year you live outside, in the garden or on the terrace, so it would be a shame to deny yourself this pleasure.
Shorter life of household appliances
The second disadvantage, which we often do not think about when hunting a flat or a house by the beach, are moisture, wind and salt, which significantly shorten the life of all household appliances. Their metal parts just rust and it can't be helped.
Crowds of tourists
The third thing that should be considered when deciding to buy a property by the sea in Spain is the attractiveness of this country for tourists. In summer, the coasts are crowded with vacationers, most of whom spend their holidays on the beach – that is, next to our apartment or house. Whether we like it or not, we passively participate in their conversations, games with children, listen to their music and almost look at their plates. This description is a bit exaggerated, but it definitely has something to do with it.
Are you looking for a seaside property in Spain? Try a "test drive"
Properties by the sea in Spain are not for everyone. For some it is the pinnacle of dreams, for others it is a place of "never again". Before deciding to buy an apartment or a house right next to the beach, it is definitely worth trying something called a "test drive", i.e. renting an apartment in a location that interests you and living in it for a while. And then verify your expectations and start the search.
Property by the sea in Spain on the Costa del Sol – suggestions from our offer
If, after reading the last paragraphs, you still want to buy a property by the sea in Spain, below you will find three sample apartments that we have in our portfolio. All these properties are on the Costa del Sol and this location guarantees beautiful views, delicious food and an average of 320 sunny days a year.
3 bedroom penthouse in Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus – this name is associated with luxury yachts, branded stores and expensive cars, which are most often bought to look nice when parked in the marina. It is also a place that never sleeps in high season. Here, life goes on to the rhythm of the latest hits, and the music does not stop, so when you decide to buy a flat here, you must take into account additional attractions. This is the prevailing opinion.
It turns out, however, that there are places in Puerto Banus that give their residents a choice: endless fiesta or peace of mind. One of such places is the Andalucia del Mar estate, one of the oldest settlements in Puerto Banus, located right next to the beach. However, it is so large that even in the buildings closest to the beach, when you go out to the terrace, you do not see the crowds of vacationers.
Our penthouse is split level and is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the building, so the views from the numerous balconies and terrace are fantastic. 3 bedroom apartment on the first floor in the luxurious Los Granados del Mar development in Estepona
This is one of my favorite apartments in our portfolio. Decorated with great taste, very elegant and still practical. Most of the furniture in this apartment was made to order, combined with beautiful lamps and well-chosen accessories. The icing on the cake is the view from the terrace - great blue. See for yourself:
Los Granados del Mar is one of the most attractive high-end estates in Estepona. It offers its residents 2 outdoor swimming pools, one indoor, gym, SPA and 24-hour security. And Estepona is a friendly, thriving city that surprises with a picturesque old town, a marina that might as well be located on any of the Greek islands, and lots of little eateries with delicious food.
The third proposition proves that seaside real estate in Spain does not have to be expensive
We will look to Manilva, where a new estate has been built right next to the beach.
The estate consists of 6 buildings with 2 or 3 bedroom apartments and duplex penthouses with a solarium. ("Solarium" is the Spanish name for the sun terrace, located on the second level of the apartment, and which will probably not surprise anyone, for sunbathing.) The buildings have been designed with a view of the sea from each of them. All apartments have spacious lounges and large terraces overlooking the beautiful community pool. To see this estate, see here:
If, while reading, you have come to the conclusion that, however, real estate by the sea in Spain is not what you are looking for, because, for example, you prefer to live in a quieter place and look at the sea from above, I assure you that our portfolio will include something interesting for you.
